Sayonara~
Today, I stumbled upon a new thought, about patriotism.
You see, its not that I hate my country or anything, (instead I truly deeply love Malaysia!!)
but somehow I felt being patriotic is not right.

Ok. Here's what I thought.
If a group of football fans shouted, ''Boo you freaking black man!" to an opposition striker, he will be labeled RACIST. and eventually, he will be kicked out of the stadium, and being fined or even suspended from coming to stadiums anymore(after he's half-dead being kicked and punched and smacked of course :) ).
Why?
Because he is said to disrupt the harmony of the 'beautiful game'.
there's even a slogan that totally rejected racism in football.

This man was nearly beaten to death(iow, he's beaten until totally paralyzed. lol~)
because he is said to 'divide' people from being united.
He is said to disrespect other people's presence.
He is said to ruin the 'beautiful' game.
That's why racism is considered so bad by many of us.

Racism is also a very sensitive issue.
Back in Malaysia, if you said anything about racism in the public, you might just accidentally 'press' the 'panic button', without really realizing it.
you will be a public hatred icon. Believe me, unless you're so damn good with words, once you slipped a racist comment, that's it, you've just lost one of your favorite 'hanging out' spot.

You see, racism is about you 'protecting' your race, believing that your race is good, or in other words, loving your race so much, that you wouldn't want to be of another race.
(ok, I made this up. :) )
From dictionary, racism means:
a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement

This is what racism is. This is what a lot of people hate. This is what believed to have 'divide' people.

Now, lets consider nationalism.(which btw, IS a synonym to patriotism, or some might
even regard nationalism as a higher form of patriotism)
it means~
the policy or doctrine of asserting the interests of one's own nation, viewed as separate from the interests of other nations or the common interests of all nations.

found anything similar?

Yes, its almost identical. You just need to replace the word race to nation, and there you go, it gives the same meaning.
I therefore conclude that
nationalism IS a form of racism, but in a more larger bigger group of people.

It simply means, if you wanna be racist, then make sure you are in a large group of 'common' people, then it will be ok.*does this sounds familiar, my malaysian friends????lol~

Yet, patriotism is regarded as something that unites people.
That 'builds' a nation.
That 'creates' a better future.

Yeah, only in that 'group' of people that is!

Lets make an analogy.
I make a big group of Racist people, called Meley.(not malays, ok. this is just fictitious. :P)
In this group, we sort of have our own PM, called Nejeb, have our own minister of that and those etc2.
everything was awesome.
We generate our own revenue, build our own society and all.
but the only problem is we 'LOVE' our own 'RACE' more than any other race.
We don't want to give other people what 'belongs' to our 'race'.
we gave better service to people which is of our own 'race', but less quality, halfheartedly work to people that does not come from the 'big group of RACE'.
in sports, we cheer our 'race', not others.
we even have our own song for our beloved 'race'.
Even if we didn't even know someone, as long as he/she is from our own 'race', then that means he/she deserves our support.
We created our own 'race flag', we make up some meaning behind the objects on it etc.
we have our own borders on the map, there's a huge area marked with ''meley'' sign on it.
we have our own army, just in case other ppl from other races are not satisfied with 'our race' and want to start a war. We're just being prepared.
Is this ok then??
nO?
what about changing all the word 'race' into 'country'.
sounds better now?
why?
??????
(I captured this photo from Bayswater tube Station. awesome right?)
(Wonder if its ok if I put a flag of my 'race' there?)

Its amazing really. I tried to search via google, ''why racism should be banned''.
guess what?
I couldn't find any relevant links.
but when I looked for ''why patriotism should be taught'', there's like millions of links popping up.
Is patriotism really good?
Is racism really bad?

*I think I know whats my answers are.
Clue, there's one big NO and and small yes.
which one's which?
You DECIDE
